mogenius exposes its own Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, so external AI‑powered tools — such as IDE assistants, Claude Desktop, or custom automations — can interact with your Kubernetes cluster through the same AI infrastructure that powers Agents and Chat.
This is the outbound direction: external clients connect to mogenius. To connect external tools to your agents (for example a GitHub or GitLab MCP server), see Tools & Custom MCP Servers instead.

Authentication & permissions

Access to the mogenius MCP server requires a valid API key generated in the platform. Each API key is tied to a specific user and inherits that user’s workspace permissions. This means:
  • The MCP client can only access namespaces and resources the API key owner is permitted to view or manage.
  • You can create separate API keys per workspace, each scoped to that workspace’s resources and permissions.
  • API keys can be revoked at any time from the platform settings.
You can create an API key from the settings of a Cluster or Workspace.

Connecting a client

Add the mogenius MCP server to your client’s configuration. The exact steps depend on the tool, but typically you edit a local config file that lists the client’s MCP servers. Replace the endpoint and API key to match your setup.

Claude Desktop

For remote MCP servers, Claude uses Connectors. mogenius is not yet available as a Connector, but you can configure it as a local MCP server. Adapt the following and add it to your claude_desktop_config.json:

In the Cursor Desktop app, open Settings and go to Tools & MCP. Add a new MCP server — Cursor opens your mcp.json, where you can add the mogenius server:

The mogenius MCP server exposes the same tools available to agents and chat, so external clients can perform cluster operations through natural language or structured requests.

Kubernetes

  • List and describe Pods, Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, and other resources.
  • Read Pod logs and events for troubleshooting.
  • Retrieve resource manifests and status information.
  • Inspect namespace‑level overviews.
  • Create and modify resources and workloads.

Helm

  • List installed Helm releases across namespaces.
  • Inspect chart values and release configuration.
  • Review release history and rollback information.
  • Deploy Helm charts.

Auditing MCP activity

Requests made through the mogenius MCP server are recorded in the cluster audit log and tagged as MCP requests, so you can trace which actions were taken by external clients.
